The clients for this stunning floating house wanted a contemporary family home on their steeply sloping site. Their main priority was for the pool to be located at the same level as the main formal and informal entertainment areas on the high and north side of the land. The master bedroom suite was also to be located on this level.
The three children would have their separate bedrooms, bathroom and rumpus room on the mid level which includes the main entry, study and a feature waterfall in the entry courtyard. The lowest level comprises a garage hidden from street view using a side access and sandstone lookalike split block walls. This gives the house a strong base upon which it sits and cantilevers to make it appear as if it is floating on the sandstone base.
Interior and Colour Design.
External and internal colours were carefully coordinated to reflect the clients’ tastes. Floor finishes comprised travertine tiles to all external terraces and wet areas, timber floors in the main living areas and carpets in the bedrooms. Special design features included a large terrace and waterfall wall at the main entry with a large glass and steel pivot door. The guest powder room used thinly cut travertine tiles on the floor and wall to give it a special look. A double volume dining area and external terrace with an openable louvred roof enhances the main entertaining and pool area as does its back to back fireplace and large kitchen.
This house recently sold for a record price for Riverview in late 2015 which is a testament to the outstanding quality and design produced by Domus Homes.
