The bathroom and front two bedrooms of this existing Federation semi in Randwick were sympathetically renovated and upgraded, with the new parts inspired by the clients desire for a contemporary modular grey and metalic “New York loft style aesthetic.”
The living, dining, kitchen area was opened up to double volume height, with views to the courtyard framed by large bifold doors and highlight windows. A seven metre bookcase alongside the steel and timber stairs adds a distinctive visual and display element to this area. A large laundry cupboard opens up on to the passage adjacent to the courtyard. The existing rumpus room was renovated and large sliding doors giving way to the courtyard installed.
The first floor addition comprises a study overlooking the double volume living area, a master bedroom with walk in robe and a large ensuite bathroom.
Epoxied compressed fibre cement sheets were used on the ground floor to look like a concrete finish to great effect.
